Black House Artist is a network dedicated to empowering women artists through exhibition opportunities, professional development, art history education, and creative equality.

During the pandemic lockdown, Ellen Mattesi, CEO and founder of Black House Artist, dedicated herself specifically to the study of women artists throughout history, and their current representation across various art institutions. It was undeniably clear that the historically accepted, Eurocentric art canon marginalized women to a point of near obscurity. Consequently, their work was confined to a metaphorical, secret, dusty attic. Acknowledgment of these artists and change for those who follow became her passion. Building a network of like-minded individuals, and a space where this community could support each other evolved into “Black House Artist.”

Its members welcome respectful communication of ideas, encourage professional growth and success, and support cultural creative equality. We welcome you to join us.
